La Première

This is fairly new to me, this Blog. I've used some other online journal options in the past, but I intend to use this blog for greater purposes than whatever I was doing in high school. It is also something to do this summer. I might get a job ( I fear both getting hired and not!), I might take summer classes (a history or an anthropology)-which is always fun and exciting, and I hope to accomplish a number of other things...

So far, I've recently finished an interesting book by Mark Monmonier: How to Lie with Maps. It discussed how map elements can be manipulated in order to extract certain feelings and assumptions from its users. There will pretty much always be some sort of undermined, excluded or exaggerated feature on a map or in the way data is organized, which has resulted in some profound changes. In short, one should be more skeptical when consulting maps! (Donnez-moi une carte avec la bonne direction.)
